  • Suggestion Section Rules - A Guide to Suggestions

The Suggestions section aims to help you to make your voice heard and forward your ideas to the people who make the game. The Suggestions Forum staff will try to push forwards popular suggestions, however that is no guarantee that the suggestions will be implemented.

    How does it work?

When you submit a Suggestion, it gets placed in a queue for approval, It has to be approved by a the Suggestions staff before everyone else is able to read it. This is not so that the mods can have a personal view on whether it is a good idea or not, this is for filtering out duplicate threads, unsuitable suggestions, and otherwise invalid suggestions. Reasons for not being approved include (and is not limited to):
    • It being a duplicate of an existing suggestion: If a suggestion is the same as a different one, having more then one thread about it is confusing and tends to cause a thread or two to be ignored. Closing these threads do not mean the idea isn't valid, just that someone else thought of it already.
    • Dead end suggestions: Ideas and suggestions that are part of here are ideas that can't be done by law, or have constantly been rejected by the player base.
    • Change the overall feel that GameForge are trying to achieve for Ikariam: Suggestions that belong here are things like suggesting nuclear weapons, space combat, etc. Things that don't belong in the atmosphere of the game.
    • Change of Premium prices, premium features for free, or something similar: Only GameForge have control over these features and prices. If they want to make it free, it's up to them. If you are suggesting a feature designed for premium, the cost of the feature isn't necessary as that's also only controlled by Gameforge.
    • Not enough information provided: These typically are features that a person writes in one line and don't explain enough to allow for a vote or discussion. Example of this is saying we need a new unit, but not giving stats, position on battle field, etc.
    • Too much in one suggestion: If too much is tried to be posted at once, it confuses people into knowing what they are actually voting on. Thus there's a limit to only one idea per thread.

If your idea does not get approved, it gets sent to the Archive. If you feel that your idea should have been approved, message the board moderator that rejected your idea, along with firm facts and related information as to why you feel it should have been.

    Before suggesting
    • Here is a quick check list of what you should do before you post a suggestion:
    • Check the Dead End Ideas forum. It contains all of the suggestion topics that will be rejected by a Board Moderator.
    • Take a look at the Archive section. If your idea or similar idea has previously been rejected/closed due to inactivity but it has more than 50% upvotes, contact a moderator to reopen it.
    • Take a look around the suggestions forum, has your idea already been suggested? If it has then your suggestion will be rejected straight away by a Board Moderator and you will be linked to the excisting thread.

If you are submitting an Idea about new Troops / Ships / Units, you must include example statistics for them when making your post. Unit suggestions without this information will be rejected by a Board Moderator.

If you are suggesting a new Research or Building, it need a example of cost and benefits statistics. Changes to research or building will require a good reason for the change.

    Submission of a suggestion

To help you in making suggestions, we have introduced a new layout for making suggestions. Now when you create a new suggestion, you will notice that there is a pre-made form ready for you to fill out. While it is not compulsory to use this form it is suggested as it lays out your suggestion in a clear and precise manner.

The reason for this is simple, there are too many suggestions being made with not enough information for them to be approved. By creating these pre-made forms we believe that it will prompt anyone creating a suggestion to think about what they are suggesting in a more in-depth manner. It not only helps us in approving your suggestions it also helps YOU, the players, in creating a clear and precise suggestion that other players can understand.

    After approval

To begin, a poll will be added to your suggestion; It will be a simple "Do you like this idea? Yes or No" poll. The poll will be visable to all users of the forums, where they can reply to, support and critic your suggestion. Often players will point out flaws in your suggestion that you have not seen, or suggest ways of improving it. It is important to remember to stay calm, it is not always nice having your ideas criticized but it will happen; If you think that someone is purposely trolling then simply report their post and a board moderator will deal with it.

    What happens next?

Once a suggestion is approved, it gets 90 days to be discussed. If your idea is very well received by the Ikariam community and players feels it is merited, then it will be moved to the Reported Suggestions forum. For a suggestion to get into the Reported section, the suggestion must receive more than 80% upvotes, minimum 12 out of 15 votes, after 90 days of being active. Reported Section is for suggestions that have been passsed on to GF forge development team. The board team will keep you involved with any information return by the game development team.

If your idea is not liked by the community, it can be closed as community rejected. This happens if it has a rating below 33% after at least 20 votes. It can also be closed if the suggestion isn't active, which is when there are no posts within 3 months of the last post on the suggestion thread.
