    General Information:

    What are you suggesting?

I would like to see the Town Wall have more HP. I propose a cumulative increase of 8-10 HP per level. Tables for cumulative increases of 8, 10, and 20 HP per level are be given below. The formula is Town Wall HP = 150 + ((Level-1) * Increment). I prefer the cumulative increase of 10 HP per level, but could be argued down. Or up. The exact value will require playtesting.

How will it change the interface/gameplay/battles/system?

Attackers will have to send more artillery with their attacks. They may have to wave the artillery for very high level walls. They may have to send Cooks when attacking Inactives with very high level walls.

    Suggestion Reason:

Currently, unless you're going for the achievements, there's no real point in upgrading the Town Wall past the mid 20s. Mortars will breach all but level 48 Town Walls on the first round. If Mortars cannot breach the Town Wall on the first round, it gives the defender more time to send reinforcements. Remember that players keep their army in one place, not spread all over, so need time to move their armies to defend their cities. The higher the level of the Town Wall, the more time the defender will have to reinforce, so the player is encouraged to continue upgrading the Town Wall.

With a cumulative increase of 8 HP per level, a level 29 Town Wall will survive a full rank of 30 Mortars for one round and a level 40 Town Wall will fall on the third round (74 hits). Figures for Catapults and Rams are also given. All figures assume fully upgraded units.

  • I've just spotted an error in the formula I give in my suggestion: it should be

    Town Wall HP = 150 + ((Level-1) * (50+Cumulative Increase))

Blech. I've spotted that I've also got the text for the +8 HP and +10 HP increments mixed up.

With a cumulative increase of 8 HP per level, a level 27 Town Wall will survive a full rank of 30 Mortars for one round and a level 40 Town Wall will fall on the third round (74 hits). Figures for Catapults and Rams are also given. All figures assume fully upgraded units.

  • You mentioned that there was no point upgrading a wall past level the mid-20s, but that is simply not true. Currently I upgraded my wall from 40 to 42 so that 30 forged mortars couldn't take it down. With just air units, rams, SCs, I can hold my wall basically for 4 rounds at a minimum (and usually closer to forever unless they send a lot of moretars) whenever I'm online and deal a bunch of damage to the enemy already.

  • 30 Forged and upgraded Mortars do 30 * (273 * 1.2) - 168) = 4,788 damage a hit to a level 42 Town Wall. That's over twice the 2200 HP the Wall has. So you're going to be sorely disappointed.

Now, if you add defensive units like Balloon Bombardiers, everything changes. Everything also changes if you include Miracles. But maintaining defensive forces in every town is ruinously expensive. My suggestion is working off the principle that the bulk of your forces are in one town, so for most of your towns, there are no significant defensive forces. So you need time to get your forces there, and the Town Wall should give you that time.

  • A wall has 7 pieces, with the calculations you gave, I would lose 2 piece of wall + take 388 damage on another piece per round. After 3 rounds I would have lost 6 pieces of wall and taken 1164/2200 damage on the last piece of wall and the mortars would be out of ammo. So it should still be standing with one piece.

I've tested it and one piece of wall lasts against 30 forged mortars. You're welcome to try when we're both online on Alpha if you would like to test it, probably easier that way.

  • I am not really in favour of this as it would make entry of newcomers into a developed worlds even more of a challemge, and potentially make fights even longer than they can be today.

When starting off, a good source of goodies for development are inactives, but very small accounts may not have researched cats or mortars or even cooks, or not be able to finance the purchase of those units and their then consequent upkeep. The proposed increase would make it very hard to even find a lootable target.
  • Although I agree that the town wall should have some improvements but this... the highest wall + forge + balloons + online player => who will be able to defeat it?

Yes, so the attacker sends more Mortars in the initial attack. But you're missing that at least one segment goes down on the first round: if it's not the town in which you've stationed your army then you've just lost.

  • I'm not sure what you're getting at, as long as I have enough gyros, I can have 84 SCs and 30 battering rams behind my level 42 wall and it would be able to defend against the 30 forged mortars forever as long as I'm online every 45 min to reload my SC ammo. Even if the enemy eventually brings more mortars, they would still have to take at minimum 3 rounds of SC and ram damage.
